Step 3: Perform an InPlace Upgrade. After installation, you should see Windows 10 Home together with updated to the latest version. If you had an existing license of Windows 10 Home, you would find Windows activated automatically, courtesy of a digital license. Credits to FroggyPwns post from here. Was this article helpful? After a hard disk upgrade and subsequent installation of Windows 10, W10 Pro appeared and could not get licensed. Threats include any threat of suicide, violence, or harm to another. Running the commands above didn't actually edit the registry for me so I did it manually. Details required : characters remaining Cancel Submit 2 people found this comment helpful.

For those struggling to get this to work, I recently downgraded Educational to Professional using a tweak of this method - whilst it's largely the same there are one or two differences. Here's what I did: 1. Ensure you have a licence code for the version you are moving to, and you know what it is!

Make sure your system is patched re-boot as needed. Lookup the generic code for the version you want to install google generic licence codes, I'm not sure if these change so please check. Disconnect from the internet. Make changes to the Registry, there are six keys which need to be changed.

I ran this script in PowerShell as an Admin. This was for me going Edu to Pro, to go Pro to Home , change values. Enter the generic key from step 4 which matches the edition you're moving to. Once the install is complete, check to make sure you have your desired version installed. Enter your correct licence key from step 1 which matches the edition you're moving to.

Re-connect to the internet, re-boot and check Windows is activated. This above method worked for me, it's posted here as an amendment to the original method from Sumit Volunteer Moderator as it includes a few extra steps others might find helpful. I sold 32 Lenovo Ideapads to a client already factory loaded with Windows 10 Home edition.

They rejected all saying that their office only works with Windows 7 Pro. I tried to downgrade, but Microsoft does not allow downgrade for PC's that are factory installed with Windows The downgrade is only possible if one has upgraded from Windows 7 or Windows 8 to Windows 10 and later on within a month decide to go back to the previous versions. I do not have the media CD's for Windows 7. Is there any other way one could downgrade.

I am stuck with 32 computers! And i cannot seem to be able to procure computers with Windows 7 anymore. If it came pre-installed with win 10 there may not be win 7 drivers for it and if not you absolutely cannot downgrade. Check with the computer maker to see if there are win 7 drivers. The second sticking point is you cannot downgrade from home to Pro without buying new licenses. You may want to suggest that they can run win 7 in a Hyper-v virtual machine in win That would enable them to have longer support win 7 is ending soon and win 10 is quicker, uses less resources, etc.
